Manitou Cliff Dwellings

Manitou Springs, CO | 2009

In order to capitalize on Owner Tom Roger’s need for more museum retail space in a very constrained area, architect Mark Tremmel turned a topographic problem into an existing, naturally lit retail venue utilizing the natural sandstone of the Cliff Dwellings area itself.  After visitors pass through a traditional pueblo style entrance, they are greeted with the dramatic architecture of the Museum and a dynamic multi-floor volume featuring a traditional kiva type fireplace and thirty foot long skylights built into a rock cliff that provide a brilliant setting for the shop and its goods.
